A food safety investigation in Patna, Bihar, exposed a fraudulent practice where old potatoes were being treated to appear fresh. The Food Safety Administration confiscated a substantial quantity of potatoes that had been adulterated with chemicals and red soil. The raids, which targeted the Meethapur and Meena Bazaar mandis, revealed that the vendors were using these methods to deceive consumers, potentially jeopardizing their health.
Food Safety Officer Ajay Kumar reported that the potatoes were being transported from Chhattisgarh via trucks. The potatoes were being bought by local traders at 9 am and sold throughout the local areas. The operation, led by Food Safety Officer Ajay Kumar, led to the seizure of about two truckloads of the adulterated potatoes.
