A woman, Radhika Devi, has died following a police encounter in Jhabuchak village, under the jurisdiction of Dulhinbazar police station in Patna, Bihar. Following her death, the local community has staged protests, blocking the Paliganj Masaurhi road near Ichipur with the deceased’s body.
Police units from multiple stations in Paliganj were dispatched to the scene. The road was eventually cleared after police intervention. Jeera Kumari, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, described the incident, stating that police entered their home late Friday night and assaulted her and her mother-in-law. Radhika Devi subsequently collapsed.
Despite attempts to revive her, Radhika Devi did not recover, and she was later confirmed to be dead. The family is demanding justice for her. The situation arose from a prior incident in which Poonam Devi had reported her daughter’s abduction, but the police initially showed a lack of responsiveness.
Following the incident, the victim appealed to the DGP, who subsequently ordered an investigation by the Patna SSP. The investigation, carried out under the direction of Paliganj DSP 2, highlighted police negligence, resulting in the suspension of the Dulhinbazar station in-charge. The police operation was aimed at arresting those accused in the abduction case.
DSP 2 Umeshwar Kumar Chaudhary stated that an altercation occurred during the raid, leading to the woman’s death. He said that the deceased woman’s sons were accused in the abduction case. An investigation into the cause of the death is ongoing. A medical team has been constituted to conduct the post-mortem. If police officers are found responsible, legal action will be taken. The body was transported to Patna AIIMS for a post-mortem.
