The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha is preparing to elect a new state president, with the election process initiating on Sunday. Pratap Sarangi, the BJP’s state election officer and Member of Parliament, provided the update on Saturday. Sanjay Jaiswal, a Member of Parliament from Bihar, has been selected as an observer by the Central Election Officer to oversee and manage the three-day organizational election, set to conclude by July 1. Jaiswal is scheduled to visit Odisha after the election notification is issued. Sarangi emphasized the importance of selecting a leader capable of uniting and effectively leading the party, noting the BJP’s commitment to its internal democratic principles. The electoral college voters list will be released on June 29. Nominations can be filed on June 30, followed by scrutiny and the publication of the final list with election symbols. Voting will take place on July 1, and the result will be declared by 12:30 PM. The election is important for the Odisha BJP, particularly as it works to strengthen its organizational structure in the state, where the government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, recently completed its first year, highlighting development initiatives. The BJP holds organizational elections every three years, beginning at the local level and culminating in the election of the national president. Elections for local, mandal, and district committees have already been completed. The party had previously announced the names of newly elected presidents across 23 of 37 organizational districts in January. The state party becomes eligible to participate in the election of the national president after the state party president is elected.
