Bhagalpur, Bihar, witnessed an unusual wedding where the groom’s baraat arrived and the bride departed by boat, due to severe flooding. The event took place in Bakharpur village, which was completely submerged.
The groom, Devmuni Kumar, and his wedding party sailed for 35 kilometers to reach the bride’s village in Katihar district. The wedding had been planned a month in advance, before the floodwaters rose. The groom expressed that the use of the boat had become inevitable due to the floods. They used a Scorpio car for a short distance, then switched to a boat to travel to the bride’s house. The groom and his wedding party, consisting of about 25-30 people, endured a heavy downpour during the journey. With no traditional fanfare or decorations, the focus was on adapting to the difficult conditions. The couple’s wedding essentials, including furniture, were also transported by boat. The groom mentioned that he had hoped for a more traditional celebration.
