The death of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rajkumar Rai, who was shot in Patna on Wednesday night, has sent shockwaves through the city. The shooting took place around 10 PM near Rajendra Nagar Terminal. Law enforcement officials confirmed that CCTV footage captured the suspects, initiating an extensive investigation. Rai was involved in politics and land dealings. Following the shooting, he entered a nearby shop in an attempt to save himself but died while being transported to the hospital.
Patna East SP Parichay Kumar stated, “A person was shot in lane number seventeen in front of Rajendra Nagar Terminal. His name is being told as Rajkumar alias Ala Rai. Accused seen in CCTV footage. There may be other culprits as well. It is being told that this person was politically active and he also used to buy and sell land. So we are investigating every angle. Our entire police team is engaged in investigating this incident. This incident happened around 10 PM.”
Reports indicate that Rai was ambushed near his home, with criminals opening fire. He sought shelter in a nearby hotel, but the attackers followed, continuing to shoot. A bullet hit the hotel’s refrigerator, causing the glass to break. Police responded immediately and transported the injured Rai to PMCH, where he was pronounced dead. Six spent cartridges were discovered at the scene.
