The political atmosphere in Bihar has been charged by a recent statement from RJD leader Urmila Thakur. Thakur likened Lalu Prasad Yadav to Lord Shiva, leading to immediate condemnation from both the BJP and JDU. The incident took place at an event in Muzaffarpur district, where a BR Ambedkar statue was being unveiled.
During the address, Thakur described Yadav in reverent terms, calling him a ‘living God.’ A video showed Thakur saying, ‘After Shiva, if there is any other living God, a God on earth to give blessings, then that is Lalu Prasad Yadav.’
The comments drew sharp criticism. JDU leader Neeraj Kumar stated that unlike Lord Shiva, Lalu Yadav had brought ‘havoc’ to Bihar. BJP spokesperson Prabhakar Mishra viewed the comparison as an affront to Sanatan Dharma.
