Free Tent Cities, Live Temple Feed and Drone Show Await Pilgrims
Bihar’s administration is offering an unprecedented free‑tent city facility for the Baba Baidyanath Dham Yatra. The combined capacity of 2,850 beds is spread across nine locations, ensuring that every pilgrim on the Sultanganj‑Deoghar corridor can rest in a sheltered environment. Each site includes hygienic washrooms, potable water, electricity, charging points and a medical help desk.
A unique feature is the real‑time broadcast of the Baba Baidyanath temple, allowing devotees to participate in darshan without leaving the tent area. Volunteers will also run a communal kitchen, providing meals to walkers throughout the day.
Cultural innovation arrives in the form of a laser and drone spectacle at the Sultanganj Ganga ghats, a first for the Shravan Mela. The 30‑day festival will also host daily performances of Bihar’s folk music, dance and traditional crafts, giving visitors a taste of the state’s artistic legacy.
The pilgrimage path has been upgraded with LED lighting, decorative arches and the continuous chant of Shiva mantras. A 54‑kilometre stretch of the raw path now features a thin layer of river sand, reducing fatigue for those on foot.
To manage the expected surge, Indian Railways has launched 12 pairs of special trains from July 28, while more than 200 dedicated buses connect Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Munger, Banka and Deoghar. Both state-run and private operators will supplement regular services.
Security arrangements include police outposts at critical junctions such as Dhouri, Joripar, Madhukarpur, Shivlok, Daspasaiya, Chandannagar, Jilebia turn, Jilebia hill and Neematan. Additionally, 300 sanitation workers will operate in three shifts to keep the route clean.
With over 66.67 lakh pilgrims recorded last year, officials anticipate an even larger turnout. The combination of free accommodation, live temple streaming, modern transport, robust security and cultural programming aims to deliver a smooth and memorable pilgrimage experience.
