A medical emergency occurred in Lavapur Narayan village, under the Mahnar police station area of Hajipur district, Bihar, when around 20 people became sick after consuming jackfruit. They were initially taken to private hospitals and Mahnar Hospital for immediate treatment. Subsequently, they were referred to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for further care.
According to the families of the children, the jackfruit, which was ripe, was distributed on Friday. Symptoms such as stomach pain, vomiting, and fever emerged after eating the fruit. Approximately 20 individuals became ill. They were admitted to both private hospitals and Mahnar Hospital before being transferred to Sadar Hospital.
Dr. A.K. Yadav from Sadar Hospital reported that 14 patients are admitted and are currently receiving treatment. He confirmed that jackfruit consumption led to the illnesses and indicated it was a potential case of food poisoning. Baby Devi, the mother of one of the sick children, said that the jackfruit was provided by their neighbor, Asha Devi, on Friday. The fruit was eaten by women, children, and the elderly.
