In a move likely to impact the upcoming elections in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has declared a substantial increase in social security pensions. The revised pension scheme will benefit widows, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, with the monthly payments increasing significantly.
The revised pension will amount to ₹1100, significantly higher than the current amount of ₹400. Payments will be distributed starting in July, with the funds reaching the accounts of the beneficiaries by the 10th of each month. The announcement is expected to positively impact approximately 10,969,255 beneficiaries.
The move, praised by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, is seen as a key development as Bihar gears up for elections later this year. The ruling coalition is attempting to underscore its accomplishments while competing against various political parties during election campaigns.
