The Juvenile Justice Board, presided over by Principal Magistrate Nilesh Bhardwaj, in Gopalganj district, Bihar, has delivered an unconventional sentence to a juvenile found guilty of liquor smuggling. The court has mandated community service for the teenager, specifically requiring him to undertake traffic duty for a duration of 30 days, with the objective of fostering behavioral improvement. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Jadopur police station. Police from Jadopur police station apprehended the teenager on January 9, 2025, confiscating 81 liters of liquor. Subsequently, a case was lodged against the minor and three other individuals at the police station. During the court proceedings, the board considered arguments from both parties. The accused juvenile, accompanied by his father, attended the hearing. The teenager admitted to the offense willingly and without coercion. Consequently, the board’s Principal Magistrate issued an order requiring the teenager to serve with the traffic police. The juvenile will operate under the supervision of the traffic police in-charge for a period of 30 days. A formal request will be submitted to the Superintendent of Police to obtain the necessary authorization. Upon completion of the 30-day period, a comprehensive report detailing the service rendered will be presented to the board. This approach is designed to facilitate the teenager’s rehabilitation and provide an opportunity for him to make a positive contribution to society, thereby positively impacting his future. During the hearing, the teenager expressed his desire for a chance to reform and integrate into mainstream society, seeking forgiveness. In response, Principal Magistrate Nilesh Bhardwaj ordered community service for the accused teenager.
