The army has prevented an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC). During the ensuing operation, a soldier was martyred. The army has launched a comprehensive search operation.
The attempted infiltration took place in the Uri sector of the Baramulla district, near the village of Chirunda. The security forces successfully repelled the attempt. Tragically, a soldier was killed in the encounter between security forces and militants. The encounter is ongoing. The army has cordoned off the area and initiated a search. Gunfire can be heard in the vicinity.
Over the past week, there have been several encounters in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces are ensuring maximum security leading up to Independence Day.
Previous encounters occurred in three locations.
Last week, encounters took place at three different locations in Jammu and Kashmir: Kishtwar, Kathua, and Baramulla. Security forces were successful in the Chak Tapper Kreeri Pattan area of Baramulla, where they neutralized four terrorists. The army also recovered a quantity of ammunition. Earlier in the week, two soldiers were martyred, and two others were wounded. This marks the second significant loss of soldiers within a week in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
