Army chopper crashes into lake in J&Okay’s Kathua

An Army helicopter crashed into Ranjit Sagar Lake, close to Basohli in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, on Tuesday morning.
Army spokesperson Lt Colonel Devinder Anand confirmed the crash however stated particulars are awaited about.
As the information got here in, senior civil and law enforcement officials from Kathua rushed to the crash website. Army divers have been deployed for the rescue operation, however there was no hint of the folks on board till 6.30 pm.
The rescue groups had discovered two helmets and luggage, apparently belonging to the pilots, sources stated.
Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) R C Kotwal advised reporters that forces and boats have been mobilised for the search operation, after which some items of chopper have been discovered, confirming it to be an Army helicopter. “We cannot say how many people were in the chopper, and what happened to them,” PTI quoted the SSP as saying.
It was not identified whether or not there have been every other individual on board barring the pilot and the co-pilot.
The helicopter, which took off from Mamun Cantt at 10.20 am, belonged to the 254 Army Aviation Squadron, it’s learnt. At the time of crash, it was finishing up a routine low-level sortie over the Ranjit Sagar Lake space, sources stated.
A particular staff of Army divers from Delhi was on solution to the location to affix the operation, sources stated.
The lake was shaped following development of the Dam over the Ravi. The dam is sort of 30 km from each Pathankot in Punjab and J&Okay’s Kathua city.
