Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has strongly criticized the BJP government’s handling of foreign policy, specifically in response to the United States’ decision to increase visa fees. He stated that the BJP’s actions have created a state of emergency in India’s foreign policy. Yadav argued that the government has not adequately protected the country from arbitrary tariffs and visa fees.
He further alleged that the government has failed to protect Indian citizens residing abroad from violent attacks. On the social media platform X, Yadav voiced his criticism of the BJP’s foreign policy decisions.
He also pointed out the government’s failure to adhere to India’s historical policy of non-alignment and to maintain strong relationships with neighboring countries. Yadav highlighted instances where Indian expatriates have faced difficulties, including public humiliation and mistreatment, claiming that the government has been unable to provide sufficient protection.
He expressed his concern that India has not received support from other nations on the issue of terrorism, implying that the BJP government has neglected foreign policy.
Furthermore, the Samajwadi Party leader criticized the central government’s response to the US’s increase in H1-B visa fees, a move that is expected to negatively affect many Indian nationals.
He said, “Your foreign policy has failed on the global stage. Your economic policies have failed, and you have failed to build meaningful relationships.”
In addition, Yadav criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, claiming he prioritizes weapons over education. Yadav suggested that the visa situation for Indians will only improve with a change in the ruling government.
This follows the announcement made by US President Donald Trump, who signed a declaration that would increase H-1B visa fees to $100,000 USD (approximately 88 lakh rupees) annually. This move is part of the Trump administration’s plan to strengthen immigration controls and is expected to affect numerous Indian professionals.
White House staff secretary Will Scharf stated that the H-1B non-immigrant visa program is one of the most abused visa systems in the current US immigration system, and the increase in fees is intended to allow entry into the US to highly skilled workers who work in sectors where American workers are not employed.
