India’s private sector is set to make history by entering the helicopter manufacturing arena. Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will be collaborating with Airbus to create a Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Vemgal, Karnataka, for the production of the H125 helicopter. This step is designed to significantly advance India’s civil aviation sector and also support the requirements of the armed forces. The Indian Army has been seeking light, multi-role helicopters for operations, especially for deployments in the mountainous regions of the Himalayas.
TASL will handle the full spectrum of operations, from construction and assembly to integration and the ultimate flight tests, all within India. The inaugural deliveries of the ‘Make in India’ H125 helicopters are expected to commence in early 2027. These helicopters are expected to be instrumental in providing emergency medical services, disaster relief, support for tourism, maintaining law enforcement, and transporting passengers.
