Following the Air India plane crash investigation, a significant number of DNA matches have been achieved, with 125 victims now identified. The Home Minister of Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi, announced that the mortal remains of 83 deceased individuals have been handed over to their families. The families of 124 victims have been contacted.
The Home Minister inspected the DNA testing facility in Gandhinagar on June 18. The testing process is being carried out by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). He commended their dedication. By late Monday, 131 DNA matches had been confirmed, with further certificates prepared for the Civil Hospital.
Senior police officials and an FSL team have been overseeing the operations. The teams have worked relentlessly over the past few days to ensure the rapid return of remains to the families. The crash occurred on June 12, involving a London-bound Air India flight near Ahmedabad airport. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had 230 passengers and 12 crew members, and all but one of the 242 people on board were killed shortly after takeoff.
