Airport security at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has once again demonstrated its effectiveness, with the seizure of gold worth approximately Rs 20 lakh from an Air India passenger. The passenger had arrived from Dubai on October 25 and was caught attempting to smuggle the precious metal. The suspect tried to exit through the green channel, but vigilant Customs officials intercepted them.
During an inspection of the passenger’s baggage, officers found a hidden gold piece. It was cleverly disguised and concealed beneath the cap of a plastic water bottle. The 170 grams of gold, with an estimated market value of Rs 20 lakh, was seized under relevant customs laws. This incident highlights the continuous challenges faced by authorities in preventing smuggling operations, even those employing unconventional methods.
