Air India Newark-Delhi flight makes emergency touchdown in Stockholm

NEW DELHI: An Air India flight from Newark to Delhi, carrying 292 passengers, made an emergency touchdown in Stockholm on Wednesday as a result of an oil leak in one of many engines and aviation regulator DGCA will probe the incident, in response to senior officers.

A senior DGCA official stated the flight, operated with a Boeing 777-300 ER plane, had an oil leak in one of many engines.

Following this, the engine was shut down, and later the plane made an emergency touchdown in Stockholm.

The airplane landed safely, the official added.

In an announcement within the afternoon, an Air India spokesperson stated its flight AI 106 from Newark (US) to Delhi confronted a technical subject and was diverted to Stockholm early this morning with 284 passengers and eight infants onboard.

The airline stated the plane is being completely checked to deal with the technical subject. The flight had whole 311 individuals onboard, together with 15 cabin crew and 4 pilots.

During the bottom inspection, oil was seen popping out from the drain mast of engine two.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will probe the incident, the DGCA official stated.

“The flight landed safely at the Stockholm airport. Passengers have been provided lounge access and meals. The immigration procedure of the passengers is being carried out to ensure their stay at the city’s hotels,” the assertion stated.

On Monday, an Air India flight from New York to Delhi was diverted to London as a result of a medical emergency.
