Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran announced a ₹1 crore ex-gratia payment to the families of each person who died in the Air India Flight 171 crash. The company has also committed to covering the medical expenses of the injured and providing them with essential care. The accident involved a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The flight, which was carrying 242 people, including 12 crew members, was scheduled to fly to Gatwick in London. The aircraft, under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, crashed into a doctors’ hostel near the airport perimeter. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, calling it ‘heartbreaking beyond words,’ and assured assistance to those affected. The aircraft issued a Mayday call and lost contact with ATC following takeoff from Ahmedabad.
