India has formally submitted its bid for Ahmedabad to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games to the Commonwealth Games Evaluation Committee in London. The Indian delegation was led by key figures from Gujarat’s government and the sports world, including Gujarat’s Sports Minister, Harsh Sanghavi, and Dr. P. T. Usha, President of CGA India. The team also comprised officials from the Indian government’s sports department, the Gujarat government, and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, along with representatives from the Commonwealth Games Association and the Indian Commonwealth Games Association.
According to the Gujarat Sports Minister, hosting the games in Ahmedabad would be a significant milestone for both Gujarat and India. He expressed the view that these games would serve as a catalyst, inspiring youth, accelerating India’s development towards 2047, and reinforcing the Commonwealth movement.
The President of the Indian Commonwealth Games Association added that India’s bid highlighted its capabilities and its values, with Ahmedabad aiming to build upon the 2026 Games in Glasgow and set the stage for the 2034 Games, ensuring that the centenary edition honors the past while shaping the future of the Commonwealth Games.
The 2030 Commonwealth Games are particularly significant as they will mark the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games movement. Ahmedabad, chosen as the host city, is planning a sports venue focused on international-level facilities, a strong transportation system, and top-notch accommodation.
The bid proposal aligns with the Games Reset principles, emphasizing affordability, inclusivity, resilience, and sustainability. It includes provisions for para-sports integration, human rights protection, gender equality promotion, and a long-term legacy framework, ensuring that the benefits extend to athletes, communities, and the wider Commonwealth.
With the successful staging of events such as the ICC Cricket World Cup, the Indian Premier League, and the 2022 National Games, Ahmedabad has a proven track record. Furthermore, the city is scheduled to host numerous sporting events in the coming years, providing it with vital operational experience in preparation for 2030.
