Abdul Ghani Bhat, a former chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, died at his home in Sopore. Bhat, 90, had been in declining health. His passing has been mourned by political leaders across the spectrum.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti acknowledged that despite differing political views, Bhat had always offered her solace during difficult times. She described him as a voice of restraint in the turbulent history of Kashmir. Bhat was a respected scholar, teacher, and intellectual who had a practical approach to politics. Mufti further mentioned that he was a strong advocate for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
