Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj has voiced concerns about Gautam Adani and his nephew, Sagar Adani. He emphasized the extensive discussion of this issue on social media platforms. The US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission initiated legal action in November 2024, Bharadwaj pointed out. Bharadwaj expressed his surprise that despite about six months having passed, the US summons has not been delivered to Adani. Bharadwaj accused that the core issue involves the alleged bribery of Indian government officials to the tune of 22 billion rupees. He stated that the Adani Group sought to raise approximately $750 million for investments in power projects, planning to make a profit of $2 billion over two decades. Bharadwaj clarified that if a foreign entity uses American taxpayer funds for its business activities, it is subject to the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. According to the summons, Adani allegedly planned to bribe some Indian government officials with $256 million, approximately 22 billion rupees, as part of a scheme. The United States has taken action against the alleged corruption, Bharadwaj noted. Since US investors also contributed to these projects, a US District Court issued a summons to Adani in accordance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, requiring a reply within 21 days. Bharadwaj raised questions about the Indian government’s inaction regarding this matter.
