4+1 format advantageous for school college students: Mamata on Bengal govt adopting Centre’s larger education protection

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee talked about on Thursday that her authorities decided to undertake the Centre’s four-year honours course protection on the undergraduate stage starting this academic 12 months so that the students from Bengal could compete on the nationwide stage.

“If other states are accepting it and we do not, then our students will not be able to compete with them (at the national level). That is the reason we had to adapt to it,” she talked about.

The West Bengal authorities on Wednesday launched the introduction of a four-year honours course on the undergraduate stage in all authorities and state-aided larger educational institutions from this academic session.

It talked about that the selection was taken after holding talks with all stakeholders and on the recommendation of a state-appointed skilled panel which had immediate rolling out a four-year UG course from the 2023-24 academic 12 months.

It will substitute the current three-year course.

The key choices of the National Education Policy, 2020, embody a four-year honours course on the UG stage as a substitute of the current three years and a one-year postgraduate course as a substitute of two years, or 4+1 format as a substitute of the erstwhile 3+2 format.
