New Cobalt‑60 Source Doubles Daily Patient Capacity at Bishkek Oncology Center

During the recent inspection of the National Center of Oncology and Hematology in Bishkek, officials confirmed that the installation of a fresh Cobalt‑60 source has dramatically increased the throughput of the Bhabhatron-2 radiotherapy unit. Where the machine once managed a limited number of cases per day, it can now handle ten times the volume, allowing more patients to receive timely cancer treatment.

The upgrade was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Kyrgyz health ministry. Both sides view the enhancement as a tangible example of bilateral assistance, aligning with broader goals of public health development in Central Asia.

Healthcare providers anticipate that the expanded capacity will alleviate bottlenecks, shorten treatment cycles, and ultimately improve survival rates for a range of malignancies.
