Myanmar is working to improve security cooperation between the two sides. In recent years, the Myanmar army has been working rapidly with Indian troops to curb anti-India rebel groups. The army is operating in the Moreh border in Manipur and Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh. Illegal Chinese armed groups coming through Ruili in China’s border Yunnan province are also under pressure due to the actions of soldiers from both countries. In May this year, Myanmar handed over a group of 22 Northeast rebels wanted in Manipur and Assam.

A senior Indian Army commander said that in preliminary discussions before the visit of the Chief of Army Staff and Foreign Secretary Shringla to Myanmar, the Myanmar Army has taken control of groups such as NSCN (K), ULFA, PLA and NSCN (IM) along the border with India.
