Vijay Deverakonda’s recent film, ‘Kingdom,’ has been released, marking his return after a sequence of projects that did not resonate as well. The action-packed spy thriller premiered on July 31, enjoying a solid start and positive feedback. However, the film is now facing challenges in sustaining its initial momentum.
‘Kingdom’ started with a strong opening, earning Rs 18 crore on its first day. The Telugu version contributed Rs 17.25 crore, and the Tamil version earned Rs 0.75 crore. On the second day (Friday), collections dropped by 58.33%, reaching Rs 7.5 crore. Day 3 saw a slight recovery, with earnings of Rs 8 crore. Estimates for Day 4 (Sunday) suggest a collection of Rs 7 crore. Consequently, the total box office collection for the first weekend amounts to Rs 40.5 crore.
To date, ‘Kingdom’ has not exceeded the performance of ‘Liger,’ Vijay’s pan-India release from 2022, which earned Rs 41.17 crore.
The film centers on Surya, portrayed by Vijay Deverakonda, a secret agent. He becomes entangled in enemy territory and finds himself imprisoned. The story explores the relationships Surya forms with those he was sent to confront. The filmmakers’ vision was to create a project of substantial scale, incorporating the inherent depth of the story’s setting amid the backdrop of war and personal themes.
Produced by S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya, ‘Kingdom’ features Bhagyashri Borse, Satyadev, and Manish Chaudhary in key roles.
