In a significant development, the Mumbai Crime Branch has taken Dilip Chaudhary into custody. Chaudhary, apprehended in West Bengal, is accused of attempting to extort Rs 1 crore from comedian Kapil Sharma. According to authorities, Chaudhary made threatening calls to a close aide of Sharma, invoking the names of notorious gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar. The Mumbai Crime Branch promptly intervened, arresting the suspect and bringing him to Mumbai. Chaudhary was subsequently presented in Esplanade court, which remanded him to police custody until September 30. Police are currently focused on investigating the accused’s claims of links to the cited criminal figures, and the authenticity of threats. The investigation includes a review of threatening communications.
