The Kerala High Court has cleared the path for Malayalam rapper Vedan, known off-stage as Hirandas, to perform internationally by modifying his bail conditions. The court removed restrictions that previously confined him to Kerala and required weekly meetings with the investigating officer (IO), as imposed by the Sessions Court.
This allows Vedan to pursue his scheduled concert tour across Dubai, Qatar, France, and Germany, running from November 23 to December 20. The court’s order includes the crucial requirement for Vedan to inform the IO in advance of any international travel and to report to authorities as and when required, provided he receives prior notice. The prosecution agreed to these revised terms.
The legal backdrop involves a case initiated in December 2022 following an accusation of sexual harassment. Vedan had secured anticipatory bail, but the conditions were deemed overly restrictive. Recognizing his responsible compliance with bail provisions for the past six weeks, the High Court opted to ease these restrictions, facilitating his professional commitments while maintaining necessary legal oversight.
