Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, ‘Coolie,’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is generating significant buzz as one of 2025’s most anticipated releases. The film is set to potentially compete with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘War 2.’ Fans can look forward to the advance booking opening on August 8, with early morning shows planned for its release.
Due to Rajinikanth’s widespread popularity, many theaters are arranging early morning screenings of ‘Coolie.’ Showtimes in Kerala and Karnataka will begin at 6 AM, while in Tamil Nadu, screenings will commence at 9 AM. Early shows won’t be available in Tamil Nadu as a result of the government’s 2023 decision to cancel FDFS (First Day First-Show) screenings following the death of a fan.
‘Coolie’ features a diverse cast including Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Aamir Khan will make a cameo appearance. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures.
The film has also garnered attention for its ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), a rating given due to the film’s violent content. This rating contrasts with Lokesh’s previous films, ‘Leo’ and ‘Vikram,’ which received ‘U/A’ certificates.
The narrative centers on Deva, a former gold smuggler now working as a coolie, who seeks to reclaim his past by resurrecting his old gang and utilizing stolen technology hidden within antique golden watches, leading to unforeseen consequences.
Rajinikanth’s previous film was ‘Vettaiyan,’ in which he starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Abhirami, and Ramesh Thilak.
