Meri Jaan: Neeti Mohan’s Delightful Yodeling in Gangubai Kathiawadi Brings Back Golden Era of Music

What is there in Neeti Mohan’s new tune Meri Jaan from Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi which makes it so soothing and interesting? There is not any clear reply to this. Composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself and penned by Kumaar, the tune is shot fully in a classic automotive, showcasing the passionate and mischievous chemistry between the lead actors—Alia and Shantanu Maheshwari. Meri Jaan is an on the spot mood-lifter, which brings again the golden period of Kishor Kumar because the tune ends with a candy notice of yodeling.

While one can immediately join with the alluring tune of Meri Jaan, the true hero behind the tune is Neeti Mohan. Mohan, who made her Bollywood debut by crooning Ishq Wala Love in Karan Johar’s Student of The Year, has taken the tune to new heights along with her soulful and sensual vocals. The retro-ness, rendition of the singer accelerates the magic of this tune, whereby the lead character tries to seek out love in a world full of lust.

“Aayi Hai Jo Raat Nasheeli, Iski Har Ek Baar Nasheeli, Tu Bhi Aa Karle Nasha…Dono Ki Mulaqat Nasheeli, Nashe Ki Ye Barsaat Nasheeli, Tu Bhi Aa Karle Nasha…”. What really makes the tune kickass is its inebriated aestheticness and classic vibes with an ideal mix of Bhansali’s tunes.

As a composer, Bhansali demonstrates some progress as a musician with Gangubai Kathiawadi. From dance quantity Dholida to like ballad Jab Saiyyaan, the album of the recently-released movie might be bifurcated into emotional and joyous. Besides, the touching Muskurahat, sung by Arijit Singh creates a setting for a Laal Ishq form of longing from Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. 

The soundtrack in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first three function movies, Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Devdas, was distinctive.  With the tune Thode Badmaash Ho Tum in Saawariya, Bhansali made his first look as a music composer, and ever since Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, he has persistently been creating the music for his movies himself.  Bajirao Mastani was the one movie during which he confirmed prowess as a composer.
