The upcoming spy-action thriller ‘Dhurandhar,’ starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, is facing a legal challenge that has prompted the Delhi High Court to request a review by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The petition has been filed by the parents of the late Major Mohit Sharma.
Their primary argument centers on the film’s depiction of real-life individuals, including the late Major Mohit Sharma, without consent. The family’s legal team highlighted that the teaser released in September strongly features the officer, and that other characters in the film are also based on real figures, with the narrative heavily focusing on Major Mohit Sharma’s story.
The High Court has issued clear instructions to the CBFC: to meticulously consider every point raised by the petitioners before making any decision on the film’s certification. The court also emphasized that if the film includes any army-related elements, the competent authorities from the army, specifically mentioning ADGPI, should be consulted and their views submitted to the CBFC.
This court order puts the film’s certification process on hold, awaiting the CBFC’s thorough re-evaluation. The legal representatives for the family affirmed that all necessary information and objections have been presented to the court, and they are prepared to pursue further legal avenues if their concerns are not adequately addressed.
