The South Indian film market currently showcases three films that are dominating the box office. Among these, Teja Sajja’s recent release, ‘Miray,’ is attracting global attention and impressive financial returns. Prior to its debut, two other movies were already making strides with their earnings. Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah’ is experiencing remarkable success, while ‘Dil Madrasi’ is managing to generate a reasonable collection. Let’s analyze the box office performance of both movies.
‘Lokah Chapter 1’ has accumulated ₹126.95 crore in India within a 21-day timeframe. The film’s overall collection reached ₹148.55 crore. Its performance in overseas markets has been exceptionally strong, becoming one of the year’s biggest hits. Reports indicate that it earned ₹111.45 crore in foreign markets, resulting in a global collection of ₹260 crore. On its 22nd day of release, the film added ₹1.85 crore to its earnings.
This represents the lowest single-day collection for the film. Consequently, ‘Lokah’ has totaled ₹261.85 crore in 22 days, as of the time of this report. The film, which had a reported budget of ₹30 crore, has already earned approximately nine times its initial investment. The long-term earnings trajectory of the film remains to be seen.
Conversely, ‘Dil Madrasi’ reportedly had a substantial budget. Reports indicate that the film was produced with a budget of ₹180-200 crore. Unfortunately, the film is not meeting expectations. Its domestic earnings have not been remarkable, and it has also faced limited support in international markets. Reports indicate that the film has collected ₹60.20 crore in India so far. Sivakarthikeyan’s film took two weeks to reach this figure. Overseas, the film managed to collect ₹24.80 crore in two weeks. The film’s global collection has reached ₹95 crore. However, considering the overall earnings, the film has only managed to recover approximately half of its budget. This is a cause for concern.
Based on the collected figures, ‘Lokah’ is clearly thriving, whereas Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Dil Madrasi’ is facing challenges. For ‘Dil Madrasi,’ the prospect of profit is not yet feasible. The film has yet to recover its significant production costs. Moreover, the influx of new releases into cinemas could potentially hinder the earnings of both movies.
