Two Decades Later: The Legacy of Taarzan’s Futuristic Car

More than twenty years after its debut, the automobile that drove the narrative of “Taarzan The Wonder Car” continues to fascinate fans and automotive enthusiasts alike. Ajay Devgn, who played the designer Devendra, marked the 22nd anniversary on social media, posting a nostalgic clip that sparked renewed interest in the film’s storyline.

The movie revolves around Devendra, a brilliant car designer whose groundbreaking sports car is sabotaged and sunk into a lake by jealous rivals. Years later, his son Raj discovers the wreckage, rebuilds the vehicle, and christens it “Taarzan” in honor of his father. The car becomes possessed by Devendra’s spirit, allowing it to move autonomously, protect its new owner, and hunt down the conspirators.

The vehicle’s design, crafted by famed designer Dilip Chavaria, blended futuristic aesthetics with the mechanical base of a 1991 Toyota MR2. The eight‑month development cycle and a price tag of roughly two crore rupees made it a symbol of luxury and innovation. Even today, the car is remembered for its sleek lines, glowing headlights, and its role as a silent avenger in Bollywood’s action‑thriller genre.
