With the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, ‘Thug Life’ was expected to be a major success. However, due to remarks made by Kamal Haasan about the Kannada language, the movie was not released in Karnataka, leading to a major setback.
The film has received a mixed response, and the box office numbers reflect an underwhelming performance. Here’s a look at the box office collection of ‘Thug Life’ in its first three days.
‘Thug Life’ Box Office Collection – Day 3:
The movie opened well, but saw a significant drop of 53.87% on Day 2, with only a slight increase on Day 3 after the drop.
Day 3 estimates suggest the film earned Rs7.50 crore, bringing the total domestic collection to Rs30.15 crore. The day-wise breakdown includes Rs15.5 crore on Day 1 and Rs7.15 crore on Day 2. Tamil Nadu performed best with Rs13.35 crore on opening day, followed by Telugu and Hindi markets.
Industry experts believe the movie will likely gain some momentum during the extended weekend, despite the expected loss of Rs 35-40 crore in gross box office collections and Rs 12-15 crore in distributor share, due to the Karnataka ban.
The controversy started during the audio launch, where Haasan expressed his love for Tamil and addressed Shivarajkumar stating that Kannada originated from Tamil.
The movie features a star cast including Trisha, Silambarasan, Abhirami, Sanya Malhotra, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf and Vaiyapuri.
