Nagpur witnessed a shocking crime as Priyanshu Chhetri, an actor featured in the film ‘Jhund’, was allegedly murdered by an acquaintance during a drunken brawl. Chhetri, also identified as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, passed away on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, has been arrested.
The incident took place in the Jaripatka area of Nagpur. Investigations suggest that Chhetri and Sahu often drank together. On Tuesday night, they met at an abandoned location for a drinking session, which spiraled into a violent confrontation. During the argument, Chhetri reportedly threatened Sahu.
Authorities allege that Sahu subsequently tied Chhetri with wires and inflicted fatal injuries with a sharp weapon. Law enforcement officials from the Jaripatka police station arrived promptly at the crime scene. The Crime Detection Branch successfully tracked down and apprehended Sahu within six hours. It is reported that Sahu has previous criminal charges pending against him.
Information gathered also indicates that Chhetri had a history of minor criminal involvement, including an arrest in 2022 for stealing valuables worth ₹5 lakh. There are also reports of a recent monetary dispute between Chhetri and Sahu. Although they had faced conflicts before, these were reportedly resolved with the help of mutual friends.
The film ‘Jhund’, a project by Nagraj Manjule and starring Amitabh Bachchan, is based on the real-life story of Vijay Barse’s initiative to empower underprivileged children through football. Chhetri, a native of Nagpur from a modest upbringing, was cast in the film portraying a footballer. His life was reportedly shadowed by challenges, including alleged drug addiction and petty crimes.
