BJP MP Kangana Ranaut Faces Criticism Over Controversial Social Media Posts

On July 28 in New Delhi, BJP parliamentarian and film star Kangana Ranaut found herself at the centre of a political storm after publishing a series of inflammatory posts on social platforms. In the messages, she labeled a segment of young Indian women as the “gutter generation” and accused the youth associated with the “Gen Z” label of displaying vulgar language and anti‑social behaviour.

Congress representatives immediately seized on the statements. Saeed Nasir Hussain remarked that Kangana’s lack of a nuanced grasp of student rights and democratic fundamentals renders her comments unworthy of serious consideration. Sukdev Bhagat echoed this sentiment, pointing out that even her own party does not treat her pronouncements with weight, which, in his view, signals how the electorate will respond.

Udayveer Singh of the Samajwadi Party warned that cinematic triumphs do not equate to political insight. He highlighted a pattern where parties nominate celebrities for electoral advantage, yet such candidates often lack the experience needed for governance.

Imran Masood, another Congress MP, demanded that Kangana disclose her educational credentials before commenting on matters of education, emphasizing that factual accuracy and accountability are essential when discussing student concerns.

The posts themselves portrayed a stark picture: Ranaut claimed that a “new generation of Indian women influenced by Western thinking” are neither academically competent nor morally sound. She accused them of misusing the concept of freedom to indulge in substance abuse, numerous sexual encounters, and reliance on parental income, while simultaneously critiquing protestors she labelled “Gen Z” for using obscene language in demonstrations.

The episode underscores the friction between celebrity politicians leveraging social media and established political parties that question the legitimacy and responsibility of such statements.
