‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Dhadak 2’, two highly anticipated sequels, were released in theaters on August 1st. ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ sees Ajay Devgn in a comedic role, while ‘Dhadak 2’ offers a fresh take on romance starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Both films had a degree of anticipation before release, but the audience and critics have reacted differently. They are competing at the box office with ongoing hits like ‘Saiyaara’ and ‘Mahavtar Narasimha’.
‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ started with a decent opening, collecting Rs 7.25 crore on its first day. The film showed consistent growth over the weekend, earning Rs 8.25 crore on Day 2 (a 13.79% increase) and Rs 9.25 crore on Day 3 (a 12.12% increase). However, the momentum slowed significantly on Day 4, with collections dropping to Rs 2.35 crore, representing a sharp 74.59% decline. On Day 5, the film managed a minor recovery with Rs 2.50 crore (according to early estimates), bringing the total five-day collection to Rs 29.60 crore.
With the current total of Rs 29.60 crore, ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ is moving toward the Rs 30 crore mark at the box office. The response to Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ hasn’t been especially positive, with mixed to negative reviews. Earlier this year, ‘Raid 2’ had a much better start, taking in Rs 19.25 crore on its opening day. Good reviews and positive word of mouth boosted the film past Rs 100 crore in a matter of days.
Besides Ajay Devgn, the movie also stars Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Sanjay Mishra. ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ also features the late actor Mukul Dev, who passed away on May 23, 2025, just a few months before the film’s release. The original ‘Son Of Sardaar’ was released in 2012 and featured Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi Chawla and Sanjay Dutt.
‘Dhadak 2’ had a modest start at the box office, collecting Rs 3.5 crore on its opening day. The film showed a slight upward trend over the weekend, earning Rs 3.75 crore on Day 2 and Rs 4.15 crore on Day 3, bringing the first weekend total to Rs 11.4 crore. However, the momentum dipped sharply on Day 4 with collections dropping to Rs 1.35 crore, marking a significant decline of over 67%. On Day 5, the film is estimated to have earned around Rs 1.60 crore, taking the total collection to approximately Rs 14.35 crore.
While the opening weekend showed some promise, the weekday drop suggests that ‘Dhadak 2’ may face an uphill battle in maintaining its box office pace in the coming days. The romantic drama is facing tough competition from Ajay Devgn’s sequel ‘Son of Sardaar 2’. Meanwhile, ‘Saiyaara’ and the animated film ‘Mahavtar Narasimha’ are also performing strongly.
‘Dhadak 2’, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, explores themes of caste and social discrimination, depicting a love story between two law students. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film is a spiritual successor to the 2018 romantic drama ‘Dhadak’, which originally launched Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. The film also features Vipin Sharma, Manjiri Pupala, Deeksha Joshi, Priyank Tiwari, Amit Jaat, Mayank Khanna, and Ashwant Lodhi.
