Agastya Nanda’s debut film ‘Ikkis’ is drawing attention not just for his performance but also for his leading lady, Simar Bhatia. Bhatia, who makes her Bollywood entry with this project, plays the romantic interest opposite Nanda. Her family ties to a prominent Bollywood figure are also a point of interest: she is actor Akshay Kumar’s niece.
Simar Bhatia’s parents are Alka Bhatia, Akshay Kumar’s sister, and her first husband, Vaibhav Kapoor. Her mother subsequently married Surendra Hiranandani. Simar herself has largely avoided the spotlight, opting instead to complete her higher education in the United States, where her passion for the arts blossomed.
Upon the launch of the ‘Ikkis’ trailer, Akshay Kumar shared his emotional response on Instagram Stories. He expressed profound pride in Simar’s transition to professional acting, noting her journey from home performances to her big screen debut in ‘Ikkis.’ He also praised Agastya Nanda’s impressive screen presence and wished the film great success.
Simar responded to her uncle’s heartfelt message with gratitude, embracing the affectionate nickname ‘little Simi.’ Twinkle Khanna, Akshay’s wife, also took to social media to commend Simar, describing her acting as ‘refreshingly natural’ and acknowledging her talent. Simar expressed her appreciation for the praise from the acclaimed author.
‘Ikkis’ focuses on the remarkable story of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, recognized for his exceptional courage during the Battle of Basantar. Simar Bhatia’s character is integral to the film’s narrative alongside Agastya Nanda. The film also boasts a strong supporting cast including Dharmendra, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher, and Deepak Dobriyal. ‘Ikkis’ is scheduled for release in December 2025.
