The promising career of actor Priyanshu Chhetri, known for his role in the recent film ‘Jhund,’ has been tragically cut short. Chhetri, also identified as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, was allegedly murdered in Nagpur on Wednesday. Police have arrested Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, a friend of the victim, in connection with the incident. The fatal confrontation is reported to have occurred after a night of drinking. Chhetri and Sahu were reportedly regular companions who often drank together. On Tuesday night, they convened at an abandoned location in the Jaripatka area. An argument reportedly escalated during their meeting, culminating in Chhetri allegedly threatening Sahu before drifting off to sleep. Investigators believe Sahu then used wires to restrain Chhetri and subsequently attacked him with a sharp weapon. The Jaripatka police station received prompt notification and dispatched officers to the scene. The accused, Sahu, who reportedly has previous criminal charges, was apprehended by the Crime Detection Branch within six hours of the incident. It has also come to light that Chhetri had past run-ins with the law, including an arrest in 2022 for theft. Recent financial disagreements between Chhetri and Sahu had further strained their relationship, though prior conflicts had been resolved with the help of mutual friends. ‘Jhund,’ the film that brought Chhetri to prominence, is based on the true story of Vijay Barse’s social initiative in Nagpur, using football to provide opportunities for underprivileged children. Chhetri, a native of Nagpur with a humble background, portrayed a young footballer in the movie, drawing on his own life experiences. His challenging upbringing and subsequent struggles with addiction were significant factors in his life trajectory.
