WPI Inflation Rate in India (June 2022): India’s wholesale inflation eased to fifteen.18 per cent in June, information launched by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry confirmed.

The wholesale worth index (WPI) had spiked to fifteen.88 per cent through the month of May, whereas the WPI for April was revised to fifteen.38 per cent from 15.08 per cent, the info confirmed. The WPI in June 2021 was at 12.07 per cent.

The WPI inflation has remained within the double digits for the fifteenth consecutive month starting April 2021.

“The high rate of inflation in June, 2022 is primarily due to rise in prices of mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum & natural gas, basic metals, chemicals & chemical products, food products etc. as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year,” the federal government stated in its press launch.

The meals articles section witnessed a spike of 14.39 per cent in June, the info confirmed. In the month previous to that, this was 12.34 per cent. The month-on-month hike may be attributed to an increase in vegetable costs.

Vegetable costs rose 56.75 per cent in June, in opposition to 56.36 per cent in May, the info confirmed. Prices of potato climbed 39.38 per cent whereas that of onions slipped (-)31.54 per cent. Prices of fruits witnessed a spike of 20.33 per cent final month from 9.98 per cent in May, whereas that of milk rose 6.35 per cent from 5.81 per cent a month in the past. Eggs, meat and fish costs rose 7.24 per cent in June down from 7.78 per cent a month in the past whereas cereals rose 7.99 per cent final month, marginally easing from 8.01 per cent.

The gasoline and energy section eased to 40.38 per cent final month from 40.62 per cent in May. Petrol worth eased to 57.82 per cent from 58.78 per cent month in the past, HSD (High-Speed Diesel) slipped to 54.93 per cent from 65.23 per cent, whereas LPG costs spiked to 53.20 per cent from 47.71 per cent.

The manufactured merchandise section eased to 9.19 per cent in June from 10.11 per cent within the month prior.

In a separate information launched earlier this week, the nation’s retail inflation, which is measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), eased to 7.01 per cent within the month of June.
