Nifty IT Drives Early Upswing as Indian Markets Start Steady
The Indian bourses began Tuesday’s session with little deviation from the previous close. By 9:28 a.m., the benchmark Sensex had inched up 32 points to 76,861, while the Nifty added six points to settle at 24,002.
Technology stocks were the primary catalyst, with the Nifty IT index climbing over 2% and topping the day’s performance chart. Parallel gains were observed in the Nifty Realty, FMCG, Media, Services, Healthcare and Pharma indices, all of which displayed green markers.
Conversely, several heavyweight sectors slipped into red territory. The Nifty Defence, Energy, PSE, PSU Bank, Manufacturing, Commodities, Infra, Metal and Auto indexes all registered declines, reflecting a cautious tone among investors.
The broader market breadth showed muted activity. The Nifty Midcap 100 nudged higher by two points to 62,307, whereas the Nifty Smallcap 100 fell 60 points, closing at 19,062.
On the stock‑specific front, market leaders such as TCS, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Tech, Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma, Indigo, ITC, UltraTech Cement, Larsen & Toubro and Bajaj Finserv posted gains. In contrast, BHEL, NTPC, Power Grid, SBI, Tata Steel, Titan, Bharti Airtel, Trent, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra saw their shares slide.
