Adani Energy Secures ₹8,500 Crore Interstate Grid Contract in Andhra Pradesh

In a landmark announcement on July 24, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) revealed that it has been awarded an ₹8,500 crore interstate power transmission project in Andhra Pradesh. The contract focuses on supplying electricity to green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag belt, where projected power demand could reach 4,500 GW.

The award was made under a tariff‑based competitive bidding (TBCB) system, with AESL emerging as the lowest‑cost bidder. Deliverables are slated for completion within a thirty‑month window.

CEO Kandarpa Patel emphasized that the Vizag transmission line will serve as a critical backbone for India’s upcoming industrial era, bolstering the state’s green‑hydrogen and ammonia capabilities while reinforcing the grid to accommodate the escalating digital‑infrastructure requirements of the Pendurthi‑Vizag zone.

Vizag’s ascent as a digital infrastructure nucleus is fueled by the rollout of AI‑driven applications, hyper‑scale data centres, planned subsea connectivity, logistics networks, and clean‑energy initiatives. AESL’s pledge to construct a resilient, future‑oriented transmission grid aims to unlock large‑scale sustainable growth across these sectors.

The project will be managed through a Special Purpose Vehicle, Vizag Power Transmission Ltd, adding 1,582 km of new transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity. Post‑completion, AESL’s network will total 29,531 km and 133,675 MVA, confirming its status as the nation’s largest private transmission operator.

With green molecule manufacturing and data‑centre expansion accelerating, a reliable and high‑capacity transmission network is vital for maintaining grid stability and ensuring long‑term industrial competitiveness.
