    The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued an advisory in March and June, extending the validity of documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, due to the increasing infection of the corona virus in the country and enforced lockdown. . The validity of all such documents was extended till 30 September 2020.

    In June, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had instructed all the states and union territories to consider such documents valid till 30 September, the period of which ended on 1 February. This step has been taken by the government to help the citizens, who have not been able to renew the license or permit due to the lockdown.

    The Center has said in its order that the documents whose validity has been extended include fitness certificate, all types of permits, driving license, registration or other necessary documents under the Motor Vehicles Act. The validity of documents in the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Act 1989 has been extended till 31 December 2020.
