This highlights an e-auction of fancy numbers held by Chandigarh’s RLA (Registering and Licensing Authority) in August. The number 0001 from the CH01-DA series sold for a record 36.43 lakh rupees. Starting from a base price of 50,000 rupees, the bidding went up significantly. Other notable numbers included 007 (associated with James Bond), sold for 16.50 lakh rupees, 0003 for 17.84 lakh, and 0009 for 16.82 lakh. The four-day auction, from August 19 to 22, saw 577 number plates sold, generating 4.08 crore rupees in revenue for the RLA, an increase of 1.1 crore rupees from the previous year. Luxury cars and exclusive number plates are now symbols of status. Numbers like 0001 or 0007 are bought to show success and exclusivity.
