Tesla is increasing its investment in the Indian electric vehicle market, preparing to launch its second retail centre in the country. The new Tesla Experience Centre is scheduled to open on August 11 at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi, catering to customers in the National Capital Region, which is a key area in India’s EV growth.
The upcoming Delhi centre comes shortly after the opening of its first showroom, which debuted on July 15 at the Maker Maxity Mall in Mumbai. The Mumbai launch was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who welcomed Tesla and invited the company to establish research and development and manufacturing units within the state.
The Aerocity centre is nearing completion. The estimated monthly rent is approximately Rs 25 lakh. Images of the centre have been shared on social media, displaying the brand’s premium positioning. Tesla currently offers only the Model Y in India, with a starting price of Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Model Y is offered in two versions:
* Standard rear-wheel drive with a 60 kWh battery, offering a 500 km WLTP-certified range.
* Long-range rear-wheel drive with a 75 kWh battery, with a range of up to 622 km.
Tesla is focusing its initial deliveries on cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, where vehicles will be delivered directly to customers’ homes on flat-bed trucks.
Tesla has also updated its website to facilitate vehicle registration across all Indian states and union territories, extending its reach beyond the original launch locations.
The full self-driving (FSD) feature is listed as an optional upgrade on the website, priced at Rs 6 lakh, though its availability in India will be phased in later.
The launch of the Model Y also marked the launch of Tesla’s dedicated India website, emphasizing the company’s commitment to expanding its operations in India, despite the existing challenges relating to EV policies and infrastructure.
