The Tata Nexon compact SUV has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the highest-selling passenger vehicle in India in September 2025, surpassing the sales of industry leaders such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, and Hyundai. This achievement was marked by a record-breaking sale of 22,573 units, not only securing the top spot but also setting a new monthly sales record for any car in Tata Motors’ history.
The increase in Nexon sales can be partially attributed to the implementation of GST 2.0, which resulted in a price reduction of up to Rs 1.55 lakh. The company also provided various customer offers. The starting price of the Nexon is now only Rs 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more accessible to a wider audience.
The Nexon has consistently performed well in the compact SUV segment. It recorded sales of 1.24 lakh units in FY22, 1.72 lakh units in FY23, and 1.71 lakh units in FY24. While there was a slight decline to 1.63 lakh units in FY25, the demand remained substantial. In the first six months of FY26, nearly 90,000 units were sold.
The Nexon stands out due to its availability with multiple fuel options, including petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric. The petrol variant is equipped with a 1.2L turbo engine producing 120bhp, with a range of gearbox options. The diesel model has a 1.5L engine delivering 115bhp and 260Nm of torque. The CNG version features a 1.2L engine generating 100bhp with a 6MT gearbox. The Nexon.ev is available with 30kWh (350km range) and 45kWh (489km range) battery options.
Safety is a key feature of the Nexon. All petrol, diesel, and EV versions have received a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP. Features include LED projector headlamps, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a voice-controlled sunroof, wireless charging, 6 airbags, ESP, a 360° camera, a blind-spot monitor, tire pressure alert, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, and cornering fog lamps.
Tata Motors recorded its highest monthly sales in September 2025, with 60,907 units sold, fueled by the strong performance of the Nexon. The company’s Q2 FY26 sales reached 1.44 lakh units, representing a 10% increase year-over-year. The EV segment also achieved a milestone, with 24,855 electric vehicles sold, accounting for 17% of the total PV sales. Additionally, exports experienced a significant surge of 411%.
With its competitive pricing, multiple fuel options, excellent safety ratings, and modern features, the Nexon has emerged as Tata Motors’ most dependable car. The success in September 2025 highlights the Tata Nexon’s dominance in the Indian compact SUV market.
