Tata Motors is aggressively preparing to challenge Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in the Indian automotive market. The company is set to introduce seven new vehicles, encompassing a variety of powertrain options including petrol, diesel, electric, and hybrid, all priced between ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh.
The strategy focuses heavily on the sub-4 meter SUV segment with the launch of the Tata Punch facelift, the new Tata Scarlet, and the next-generation Tata Nexon, aiming to directly compete with Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx and Brezza. These two Maruti Suzuki SUVs are currently among the highest-selling models in this category.
**Tata Punch Facelift: Design and Features**
The 2025 Tata Punch facelift will draw design inspiration from the Punch EV, with features such as slim headlamps, redesigned bumpers, a new LED DRL pattern, and new alloy wheels. The interior will likely see upgrades including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a two-spoke steering wheel, similar to that found in the Altroz. The existing engine options, the 86bhp 1.2L petrol engine and the 73.4bhp CNG engine, are expected to be retained.
**Tata Scarlet: Powertrain and Design Insights**
The new Tata Scarlet, a compact SUV, is set to feature a boxy design reminiscent of the Sierra. Built on a monocoque platform, it will be offered with petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains. The exact engine specifications are still under wraps, though potential options include the Nexon’s 120bhp 1.2L turbo petrol, the Curvv’s 125bhp 1.2L TGDi petrol, or a new 1.5L petrol engine. An electric variant is also a possibility.
**Next-Generation Tata Nexon: Anticipated Launch and Updates**
The next-generation Tata Nexon is anticipated to launch around 2027. This model will be built on a revised version of the current X1 architecture and will likely incorporate significant design changes and feature upgrades. While petrol and CNG engines will likely remain, the diesel engine might be phased out due to the upcoming BS7 emission standards.
