A passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru had an unusual experience: being trapped in the aircraft’s lavatory for the duration of the flight. The airline has offered an apology and reportedly a refund. This unexpected situation has garnered significant attention.
The passenger was eventually released after the flight landed in Bengaluru. Ground staff and engineers were able to unlock the faulty door. The flight was delayed, departing Mumbai at 2:10 AM instead of its scheduled time of 10:55 PM.
The incident occurred when a passenger, seated in 14D, entered the restroom shortly after takeoff. The door lock malfunctioned, trapping the passenger inside. The crew attempted to resolve the issue, but were unsuccessful. To console the passenger, the crew passed a handwritten note under the door, asking them to remain seated until the landing in Bengaluru. The image of the note spread rapidly online. The flight landed in Bengaluru at approximately 3:45 AM. The airline later issued a formal apology for the incident and the trouble it caused.
