A passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru had a highly unusual experience, spending the entire flight trapped inside the aircraft’s lavatory. The airline has apologized and offered a refund in response to the incident, which has since generated significant online discussion. The passenger was eventually freed after the flight landed in Bengaluru, with ground staff and engineers successfully opening the locked toilet door.
The incident occurred on a Monday night, with the flight departing from Mumbai Airport at 2:10 AM, following a two-hour delay. Shortly after takeoff, a passenger in seat 14D entered the restroom. However, the door lock failed, trapping them inside and leading to a challenging in-flight situation. Despite the passenger and the crew’s efforts, the door remained locked.
The crew, in an attempt to reassure the passenger, slipped a handwritten note under the door asking them to remain seated until the flight’s arrival in Bengaluru. The note quickly went viral online, with many netizens finding the situation amusing. The flight touched down in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM. Airport engineers then opened the door. The airline expressed its regrets and issued an apology to the passenger.
