The Indian automotive industry is witnessing price adjustments following the implementation of GST 2.0. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Kia are among the manufacturers offering reduced prices across their product portfolios, including compact SUVs. For those in the market for a new car, this presents a prime opportunity. This article highlights the top 5 compact SUVs that offer significant savings due to the GST revisions.
**Maruti Brezza**
The Maruti Brezza, though under 4 meters, features a 1.5-liter petrol engine. Currently, the Brezza is priced from ₹8.69-13.98 lakh (ex-showroom) with a 45% GST. From September 22nd, the tax rate reduction to 40% is expected to lower prices by ₹30,000-₹48,000, depending on the variant. Post-GST changes, the Brezza’s pricing could range between ₹8.39-13.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
**Hyundai Venue**
The Hyundai Venue has greatly benefited from GST 2.0, experiencing price cuts of up to ₹1.32 lakh in the Indian market. The price adjustments impact both petrol (1.0 and 1.2 liter) and diesel (1.5 liter) variants. These variants were formerly taxed approximately 29% (28% GST + 1% cess) and 31% (28% GST + 3% cess); they are now placed within the 18% GST slab.
The Hyundai Venue’s current price ranges from ₹7.94-13.38 lakh (ex-showroom). Post-GST 2.0, prices are expected to fall to ₹7.26-12.05 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-of-the-line diesel variant sees a ₹1.32 lakh reduction, while the base variant’s price is lowered by ₹68,000.
**Kia Sonet**
The Kia Sonet is another beneficiary of GST 2.0, with price reductions of up to ₹1.64 lakh in the domestic market. Like the Venue, its petrol and diesel variants were previously subject to 29% (28% GST + 1% cess) and 31% (28% GST + 3% cess) taxes. The GST changes place these variants under the 18% slab.
The Kia Sonet starts at ₹8 lakh, with the top-end GTX Plus DT diesel-automatic variant priced at ₹15.74 lakh. Post-GST adjustments, the price range will be ₹7.30-14.10 lakh, resulting in price reductions of ₹70,000-₹1.64 lakh in the Indian market.
**Tata Nexon**
Tata Motors has announced price reductions of up to ₹1.55 lakh for the Nexon compact SUV, effective from September 22nd. The petrol and diesel variants previously faced 29% (28% GST + 1% cess) and 31% (28% GST + 3% cess) taxes. GST 2.0 applies a uniform 18% GST rate to all Nexon variants.
**Mahindra XUV 3XO**
Mahindra is notable for offering GST 2.0 benefits starting September 6th, ahead of other automakers. The XUV 3XO, Mahindra’s sub-4 meter SUV, sees price reductions of ₹1.40 lakh and ₹1.56 lakh for its petrol and diesel variants, respectively.
The former tax rates of 29% and 31% have been replaced with an 18% rate. Prior to the announcement of GST 2.0, the XUV 3XO was priced from ₹7.99-15.80 lakh. Now, prices range from ₹7.28-14.40 lakh, representing a price decrease of ₹71,000-₹1.56 lakh depending on the variant.
