A new report from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) indicates a stable performance in the Indian vehicle market for May 2025. Total domestic sales across Passenger Vehicles, Three-Wheelers, Two-Wheelers, and Quadricycles reached 2,012,969 units. The two-wheeler and passenger vehicle segments exhibited strong performance, whereas three-wheelers and quadricycles showed a decline. The two-wheeler segment, encompassing scooters, motorcycles, and mopeds, experienced a 2.2% rise compared to May of the previous year. Scooter sales were up by 7.1%, motorcycles remained steady, and mopeds saw a drop. Three-wheelers saw a decrease month-on-month. However, three-wheeler production saw an increase of 10.6%, and exports grew by 29.6%. The automotive industry anticipates a positive outlook, supported by the recent RBI repo rate cuts and predictions of an above-normal monsoon season, factors expected to improve affordability and boost consumer confidence. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and Hyundai Motor India Ltd. were significant contributors to passenger vehicle sales. For the period of April-May 2025-26, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. collectively sold 84,226 and 110,757 units of Utility Vehicles respectively.
